Dr Hilary Joyce has a personal and professional interest in the provision of fertility services across a wide range of areas. Her own encounter with fertility issues has given her first hand experience. Hilary regards the birth of her daughter as her most notable achievement. She is devoted to assisting others to reach their fertility goals.

Hilary conducts her practice with her husband, fellow Genea Fertility Specialist Dr Geoffrey Reid. Hilary and Geoffrey are the only husband and wife team at Genea.

Experience & Qualifications

Hilary studied medicine at the University of Melbourne. She was the top student in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and achieved second place overall in her graduating year. Her speciality training was initially at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) and Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH), Melbourne and subsequently at St Mary’s Hospital for Women and Children, University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.

Her first mentor in Assisted Reproduction was Dr Ian Johnston, one of the great IVF pioneers in Australia. On return from the UK, Hilary provided regional IVF services in the Riverina in for almost 10 years prior to settling in Sydney and the Southern Highlands. She has been treating couples with fertility problems for more than 20 years.

Hilary provides a wide spectrum of fertility services through Genea in Sydney City, Sydney South West and the Southern Highlands. Reproductive surgery is performed at Genea Day Surgery, St Luke’s Hospital in Potts Point and Southern Highlands Private Hospital, Bowral.

Additional Information

Hilary is the immediate past President of the National Association of Specialist Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (NASOG) 2009 – 2011 and was the first woman to hold this position. She was also the Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Craft Group nominee (representative) on the Federal Council of the Australian Medical Association 2007 – 2011. In these key medico political roles and in association with the IVF Directors Group, Hilary was active and influential in lobbying against the threatened Safety Net cuts for both IVF and obstetrics. Previously she served on the Council of the Australasian Menopause Society.
