Dr Sonal Karia understands the journey to parenthood can sometimes be a long and difficult one and she is passionate about helping couples tackle the challenges of infertility. Good communication is vital and Sonal takes the time to explain procedures and treatment options to patients. She is also fluent in three Indian languages – Gujrati, Hindi and Marathi.
Sonal has a special interest in genetic screening for inherited disorders, recurrent miscarriage management and fertility preservation for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Sonal has completed subspecialty training in infertility and reproductive endocrinology (CREI), including female and male factor infertility, reproductive endocrinology, adolescent gynaecology, andrology and menopause management. She is also a consultant (staff specialist) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Campbelltown and Camden hospitals.
Before moving to Australia, Sonal worked in the Fertility Clinic and IVF Centre in Mumbai for three years, where she was an Associate Consultant and Senior Associate to the former president of the Federation of Obstetrical and Gynaecological Societies of India. She has wide ranging skills in the management of infertility and assisted conception techniques, including monitoring of follicular growth, controlled ovarian stimulation, female and male assisted reproduction procedures and ultrasound-guided ovarian cyst aspiration. Other interests include the management of long-standing and complicated cases of infertility, preimplantation genetic diagnosis and gynae-endoscopic surgery.
