Biography

Humour and calm, clear communication are key to Mr Richard Dover’s approach to patient care. He adopts a holistic approach to health and is committed to taking the time needed to thoroughly explain all options for each situation.

Internationally recognised for his expertise in hysteroscopic and advanced laparoscopic surgery and obstetric care, Richard is particularly interested in investigating and treating endometriosis, menstrual problems and pelvic pain. Richard has presented on these issues internationally and has published numerous scientific papers and book chapters.

Experience & Qualifications

After graduating from the United Kingdom’s Southampton University with a Bachelor of Medicine in 1988, Richard worked in the Wessex region for a number of years before undergoing specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Nottingham. The next few years saw Richard take up fellowships in the UK and Australia to gain the highest level of experience training in laparoscopic surgery. In early 2002, he relocated to Christchurch with his family to work at the Oxford Clinic and Christchurch Women’s hospital.

Richard is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FRCOG) and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology FRANZCOG.

Richard is one of four specialists at the newly established Genea Oxford fertility clinic. He relishes the opportunity the newly established clinic provides to offer a seamless, one team approach. Richard’s patients will be able to undergo any necessary procedures, IVF treatment and obstetric care all with him within a single facility.

He highly values the opportunity to give back to his profession. Through his two academic fellowships he has successfully researched, published and presented widely. And as an examiner for RANZCOG professional qualifications, Richard is also able to help trainees prepare for these important exams. Richard has also worked sessions at The Canterbury Charity Hospital. 

Married to Helen, Richard is a family man who in between his sons’ many sporting and musical activities, enjoys a range of interests including running, cooking and cycling.
